About Entropy
More than a gym. A home for Jiu Jitsu in Dubai.
Founded in 2019, Entropy is an independent Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academy built on technique, community, and character — Our journey has been anything but ordinary.
The Story Built on purpose.
Entropy was founded in October 2019 by Thabet Altaher with one shared conviction: that Dubai deserved a real home for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, not another fitness studio that happens to teach BJJ.
Thabet had trained under some of the most decorated black belts in the sport's history — and what he saw in Dubai's BJJ scene wasn't what he had experienced abroad. Gyms came and went. Coaching was inconsistent. The art itself often felt like a side offering inside commercial fitness spaces. So Thabet set out to build something different: an academy with a head professor, a clear identity, and a community built around values — morals, ethics, humility, and growth. Not a gym. A home.
From day one, the mission was larger than the mat. Thabet wanted Entropy to shape the next generation — to give members, young and old, the tools to walk through life with confidence, strength, wisdom, and the ability to contribute to their communities. The gentle art was the vehicle; character was the destination.
Over the years, the academy has hosted seminars with some of the greatest names in Jiu Jitsu: Andre Galvão, Josh Hinger, Kaynan Duarte, Gabriele Pessanha, Claudio Calasans, and Gabriel Sousa. Entropy is also home to the first Jiu Jitsu Queenz Camps ever held in the MENA region — Camp 1 led by Rose El Sharouni, Yara Kakish, and Ariadne Oliveira, and Camp 2 led by ten-time world champion Dominyka Obelenyte alongside Yara Kakish.
Today, Entropy is 200+ members strong, five coaches deep, and open to anyone between the ages of 3 and 80. From a child's first day on the mat to a grandparent's first takedown, the same standard applies: real Jiu Jitsu, taught properly, in a community where everyone belongs.
